Re: recording mixes from my DAW -- audio oddities
Re. the "pumping compression", one possibility is that it could be some sort of automatic gain effect. Check that all of the Windows Sound "Enhancements" are turned off. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#enhancements Ah, Windows Sound Destruct -- I mean, "enhan...

Re: MINIDISC recording help required
My experience corroborates kozikowski's answer... the mic preamp on your laptop may be overdriven by the minidisc headphone out. I use a Tascam US-144 for inputs to my laptop. A patch cord with 3.5mm stereo jack to RCA L&R jack will help here, but you'll need a pair of RCA-to-1/4" to convert to the ...

Re: recording mixes from my DAW -- audio oddities
Why do you want to do that? Is it just a test, or is there a practical purpose? It's mostly because I've been working with Audacity for the past 7 years. I'm used to the work flow, and it's a kick-*** editor. That's because when recording with Audacity, the digital data from Reaper is rendered to a...

recording mixes from my DAW -- audio oddities
Happy New Year to all! I'm running Reaper 4.53 (32-bit) and Audacity 2.0.5 (from the .exe) on a Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit desktop. The computer has the Realtek High Definition audio card, which came stock with the unit. I've tried to use Audacity for recording my Reaper mixes, and I'm experiencing t...

Re: the hiss that wouldn't die
Is it possible the noise is coming from your soundcard? Do you hear the hiss when you pause playback? I've listened quite closely, and the soundcard isn't the culprit. It's the stock Realtek unit that came with the desktop, but it's pretty quiet. Steve and Koz: I've reset the dithering to "none", a...

Heard it; that's pretty fried. Yowch!steve wrote:Thanks for the input, but before you get too enthusiastic, have a listen to the posted sample. It is far beyond many of the usual restoration techniques
Let's call it an "archival recording" and leave it at that.

Re: Noise Removal of 78RPM
Transferring old media to digital format was one of the many jobs my dad once had in the industry, and he told me of some of the painstaking steps it took, to get something recorded well enough to attempt digital cleanup. I haven't updated to the latest version of Audacity yet, but from the various ...

Re: Edit the volume of a recorded phone conversation help
In my experience, recording phone conversations is frustratingly disappointing, because you're at the mercy of whatever phone system is being used. If you are old-school like me, hard-wired landline-to-landline is as good as it gets... not that it was that good to start with. There's no dropouts, an...

Re: the hiss that wouldn't die
Could you be talking about dithering? Audacity adds a tiny bit of noise to exports to ease the transition from 32-bit floating to 16 bit PCM. You can turn it off in Edit > Preferences > Quality > Conversion. You may not want to because the distortion goes up when you do that. I think that only happ...

Updating to 2.0.3 -- need to keep plugins
How can I keep my hard-earned, long-sought plugins and EQ XML codes when updating to the new version from 2.0.2?
