Trying to understand how waveforms are represented...
Until the past summer I was working with fairly ancient computers: an old Amiga running Samplitude, and an old Windows 98 PC running Diamond Cut Audio. These programs always displayed waveforms symmetrically (laterally). For instance here is an example waveform in both programs: http://www.postimage...

Re: Question about Normalization (how does it work in Audaci
Very glad I could shed some light onto and contribute to the development of one of the 'net's best open-source projects.

Re: Question about Normalization (how does it work in Audaci
Thanks for the description of DC offset. I'm pretty sure I have a handle on it now, and thankfully have not encountered it (to my knowledge - I'll have to zoom in from now on once in a while just to check). I agree that the way Normalization works independently on each track of a stereo pair in Auda...

Re: Question about Normalization (how does it work in Audaci
Thank you for your reply. I see then that the Normalize function in Audacity is supposed to do. In my case, I am best to stick with the "Amplify" function instead, then. I think it might be useful if there was a tick box in the Normalize function that offered something like "tie stereo pairs" or "pr...

Re: Question about Normalization (how does it work in Audaci
Do the authors of Audacity read these threads?
I could post a segment of the audio file for one of them to try to normalize if it would be helpful.
Yes, I agree that if Audacity doesn't link the two channels when it Normalizes, then that function is fairly useless.

Question about Normalization (how does it work in Audacity?)
Hello, I have a few questions about how the NORMALIZE function in Audacity works. For years I used an Amiga to do audio mastering of home recordings. On that platform, I could Peak Normalize the audio to a percentage. I would usually Normalize the audio to 100% (0.0 dB?). Basically, I was doing a ga...
