Need help trimming silence at end of tracks

It seems that many of the files I've ripped from CDS have unnecessarily long silences at the end and I find myself trimming it off over and over again. I tried the Truncate Silence effect to see if I could automate the process but it doesn't seem to work very well for what I want it to do. Would any...

Re: Can't play a recorded CD

Are either of your CD players supposed to play MP3 data files? Some can but most can't. As others mentioned you'll most likely have to create an audio CD from your files that'll play in CD players. I agree converting them to WAVs instead of MP3s would be better for an audio CD.

Re: Custom output directory for Exporting via Chain?

Sure, I'll vote for that. It's fine the way it is, but it would be handy to have custom directories also. :)

Custom output directory for Exporting via Chain?

I have a chain with three commands, the last one is ExportFlac. There doesn't seem to be a way to specify an output folder. It automatically saves to the original folder in a new subfolder called "cleaned." This is okay, but I was wondering if anyone knows a way to change this. I looked in Preferenc...

Re: normalize volume

You can Import multiple files then normalize one at a time or all at once, but there are some downsides I'll explain in a minute. To Import, use File>Import>Audio then navigate to the files. Select all the ones you want to Import then click Open. Or alternatively you can go to the folder where the f...

Re: Does Normalization Boost EQ?

Normalization in Audacity is mainly for equalizing the left and right channels of a stereo track to the same level. Amplifying one way or the other is more of a byproduct and is optional. I've never monitored it, but in my experience, raising or lowering the amplitude significantly does seem to chan...

Re: normalize volume

If there are too many files to normalize individually with Audacity you can normalize with your player. I use the free AIMP3 player which has regular normalize and ReplayGain. With ReplayGain you have to add data to all the tags you want to normalize. I used foobar2000 to accomplish this when I was ...

Re: Is there any way to reverse compression and is it worth

What I've been doing is removing DC offset and applying Clip Fix then normalizing. I'll probably just stick with that as the sound isn't that bad and it sounds like the results might not be worth the extra trouble.

Thanks for the insights and suggestions. :)

Is there any way to reverse compression and is it worth it?

I've started noticing compression and intentional clipping on many of my music files. I attached one example from an Alan Parsons CD. Practically the whole CD looks like that. My question is does anyone know if there's a way to reverse these effects and would it make that much difference in sound qu...

Re: Need help removing strange noise

I can't believe it, I fixed it. I did kozikowski's suggestion and copied two words from earlier in the song then cut out the bad spot and pasted in the new data. It worked seamlessly, I didn't have to apply repair or anything. LOL Thanks to all for your help. Audacity's awesome!
