Re: Is there a way to smooth a wave form?
... Perhaps I want to use dynamic compression instead of limiting? I believe Steve's-limiter performs dynamic range compression in an ultra-fast response time. A standard dynamic range compressor will not respond quickly enough to trim off the "long, thin lines" on the guitar sample. Yeah, I've bee...

Re: Can't Record - Also "Error opening Sound Device"
These two seem to contrast. Client software support for ASIO, (and ASIO4ALL) requires Steinberg's ASIO SDK, but Steinberg's ASIO SDK is non-distributable. ASIO4ALL is not an ASIO client application, and I assume that it does not require Steinberg's ASIO SDK, but whether it does or not has no affect ...

Re: Is there a way to smooth a wave form?
@DVDdoug: .....despite the badness of that recording mentioned, you can hear the quality of the amp tone, is what I said. Anyways, in my fiddlings, using compression made everything louder; a guy on another forum told me he used a limiter, and I thought his tracks/stems sounded pretty good, so I tho...

Re: Separated/Individual balance for Right and Left channels
@steve: I'll re-explain. I have a USB-equipped digital guitar preamp. Most of the time I don't need an outboard mixer, and would like to use just my preamp. However, when recording a guitar track against another one, where the first one is panned left, it helps to be able to pan the one being record...

Re: Separated/Individual balance for Right and Left channels
I'm resurrecting this as it might be what I want to ask about. My monitors are connected to a usb device whose balance controls affect the overall sound. Other recording programs will allow you to pan the track being recorded. Audacity will only allow you to pan a track that's been recorded, right? ...

Re: Is there a way to smooth a wave form?
Thanks, Trebor. (And nice to see you here.) I have little experience with compressors and limiters, and hadn't yet gotten round to looking them up. ....Okay, I tried it some. It increased the loudness without altering the sound. @koz: I want to increase the noise floor. Overall, I'm trying to make a...

Is there a way to smooth a wave form?
For example, I have the following. Now this is of a high gain electric guitar signal - but I wonder whether there's a way to remove those long, thin lines in it - without altering the source timbre?

Re: Can't Record - Also "Error opening Sound Device"
So ASIO4ALL can be free, but the software that uses it must satsify license?

Re: Any plugin from the LSPDA set causes a scan....
Possibly it has a VST plug-in somewhere on the system - you could check to see if plugins.cfg is empty or not. If it is empty, then either the scan is not happening, or it is happening so fast that you don't see it - which is possible if Audacity only has the shipped DLL files it came with. Gale Th...

Re: Any plugin from the LSPDA set causes a scan....
If you don't use VST or LADSPA plug-ins then you may as well disable them. You don't need to manually edit the audacity.cfg file to do that, you can do it through the graphical interface: Edit menu > Preferences > Effects". The built-in Audacity effects will still be available. I have the LADSPA (g...
