Re: Are you able to tell which recorder is better?

Thanks everyone for the additional insights. It's been an interesting exercise but the end result is anti-climatic. First......the bottom line, at least in my case...use the simplest approach, as it doesn't make a damn bit of difference as to what u hear. :o Using a brief period of quiet (the band s...

Re: Are you able to tell which recorder is better?

Thanks so much for u'r detailed answer. Of course, I was looking for the easy answer & of course, it always fails to arrive ;) The most important thing when comparing two files/sources is matching the volumes. The louder one will usually give a better impression and "sound better". And, you can't te...

Are you able to tell which recorder is better?

Hello Using v 2.0.5 on win 7x64 I'm playing around w/ recording online audio streams. Thanks to u'r detailed instructions, I have Audacity & computer working correctly. This is not critical work, just fun stuff. I have 2 puters, 1 online (OL), the other, my workstation (WS) is off-line. The WS has a...

Re: 3 questions re: Mp3 & editing recordings

1. Do u lose quality if u edit a Mp3 in Audacity & then save that Mp3 file? Yes. Encoding to MP3 "throws away" some of the audio information. The effect is cumulative and irreparable. Using a high bit rate (for example "Extreme" or "Insane") will minimise the damage. .......snip....... I had that s...

3 questions re: Mp3 & editing recordings

Hope it's OK to put all 3 in 1 post. 1. Do u lose quality if u edit a Mp3 in Audacity & then save that Mp3 file?...... ie... I have several purchased Amazon Mp3 downloads that I would like to preform small edits on (adjust output volume, lower Bass, etc). They come w/ 256-Constant encoding. If after...

Exporting song titles in one file

Morning all I've got the technique down where I rip my CD w/ EAC, (or record my LP in Audacity) then export them as individual titles from Audacity 2.1 w/ the labels I place at the beginning of each title. But I don't know how to keep the labels or the metadata of each title when I export as one lon...

Re: Make Dialog box sticky?

...(the default of 0.0 results in clipping, even w/o choosing to allow clipping)... If by this you mean that you get red lines showing the clipped points you are both right and wrong. If you are seeing the red lines it is because you have activated "Show clipping" in the Preferences. What "Show cli...

Make Dialog box sticky?

As the last editing step on my LPs, I like to run Effect>Amplify to -0.5 dB (the default of 0.0 results in clipping, even w/o choosing to allow clipping). On single artist recordings I can usually do the entire LP at once, but on my compilation albums I usually have to apply the effect individually,...

Re: Do I need to get rid of these clips?

Thanks to all, I'm understanding this quite a bit better...I had things a bit upside down & didn't realize I was at my desired amplification already. 20 degrees ??....that's below freezing!....wait...what's with the C instead of F....humm...isn't that something they mentioned in School??....I knew I...
