Re: Combining separate files into one file (e.g., add file)

Firstly, you've obviously used "Open" (= one file per project) instead of "Import" which allows you to import all files in one go into one project. When all files are imported, you probably have to rearrange them vertically. The newest Audacity version has the option 'align'-->'E...

Re: Microphone Volume super low with whitenoise?

How is the head-phones output? It should have a separate gain knob. Is there also white noise in the performance?

Re: Is Chris 1.2.6 still the best?

Koz, You gave me some idea, couldn't Chris' Compressor be used for exactly the opposite, namely to bring broadcasted music back to its original dynamic range? You could experiment to figure out which (negative) factor should be entered to just achieve this. There's a floor when used as expander thou...

Re: Shepard Tone in Audacity?

I think that a "repeat for x octaves" would be useful. The wording does not need to be that, but for a cycle to match up smoothly it probably needs to go for a full octave per cycle. I don't think so, but it might be the most neutral one, without thirds and sixth etc. The Nyquist example ...

Re: Shepard Tone in Audacity?

There are many possibilities, how simple or complicated we want the plug-in to be. I'd suggest that for an initial version, to make it very simple, but written and commented in a way that allows the effect to be expanded should there be sufficient demand. Well, we could start with the following con...

Re: Shepard Tone in Audacity?

For any hobbyists, though, I believe that a full, comprehensive Shepherd Tone addon could be very popular. Given that there are so many variations of the Shepard Tone effect that is a tall order, though perhaps a plug-in to produce a "classic Shepard tone" would not be too difficult. What...

Re: analyzing stereo and mono tracks

I would still vote for keeping the filters in any revamped "Centre Remover", and for including isolation. I don't think there is any less chance isolation would work than removal would work. Artefacts are expected, so a few more artefacts if a filter achieves more removal or isolation is ...

Re: Shepard Tone in Audacity?

There's a bunch of free plug-ins available that produce shepard tones. Here's the (Nyquist) shepard generator, I've in my Audacity version: shepard.ny I appreciate the other replies, but this is definitely the best option of the three posted so far, because it's the easiest for me, MWA HA HA! Can y...

Re: Can microphone instability be compensated in Audiacity?

Trebor, A most interesting idea. I guess you propose that we should look at the noise floor to determine the actual used compression. A normal recording should have a constant noise floor (hum, white noise, hiss). This floor is naturally raised, if no gating was involved in the first place. One coul...
