Re: Recording computer playback using WASAPI or MME

The hints I wrote above apply to WASAPI rather than MME or Windows DirectSound. If your computer sound card has Stereo Mix or What U Hear (which you can use under MME or Windows DirectSound), you can always press Record before starting the stream. WASAPI could have quality issues if resampling occu...

Re: modified silence marker to insert more silence

There's always the option of running "Truncate Silence" after increasing the duration of the silences. Truncate Silence has been reworked for Audacity 2.0.6, making it much more user friendly. Nevertheless, it is a missed opportunity that the compression doesn't include silence expansion ...

Re: modified silence marker to insert more silence

It might be necessary and convenient too add a Maximum Length control. Is there a use case for that? You have an Audiobook with rather short gaps. You extend them but you certainly do not want them to go over 3.5 s. The same is true for e.g. Audio Dramas where soundeffects and music are inserted du...

Re: Is "Center Pan Remover" plugin functional?

This is an absolute unnecessary step since the effect is already shipped with Audacity.
Look in the effect list for "Vocal Remover (for center-panned vocals)...".
Please note that the plug-in dialog does only apply to Vst plug-ins.

Re: modified silence marker to insert more silence

Sounds reasonable, Steve. Compression is not too far fetched. Scenario: - Add 1 s to the gaps (method A) - reduce the gaps by 50 % (method C) This is clearly a compression, just with seconds instead of Dezibel. This might be good for e.g. audio books where the pauses vary too much. If you allow this...

Re: Problems transfering audio from Olympus DP-201 recorder

Does the audio play clean over the computer speakers?
If so, choose Wasapi as host and the speaker loopback as input.

Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.

Mine, too. It does OK, but it's right next to a busy street and we're serenaded with the soft whirr of laptops using the free internet. There's one library on the west side where the building is between the eastbound and westbound lanes of Venice Blvd. I have an SPL meter. I should try it. There is...

Re: Fledgling voice artist seeking counsel.

Greetings, I'm not sure if this will be of any use to any of you but I have found it interesting. I just found an app on the Android Store called Sound Meter Pro. Currently only sale at $1.50. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.aboy.sound Around my house I get a maximum of 83 DB (when...

Re: ReplayGain

I agree the latest version is not ready for release, testing with mono tones, anyway. If I do the Analyze step, then use Effect > Amplify... to apply the adjustment suggested by Analyze, then Analyze again, I get 0.0 dB Replay Gain result. If I apply the suggested adjustment in "Normalize"...

Re: Problems transfering audio from Olympus DP-201 recorder

The ear output must go into a line-in on the computer, not a microphone input. If there are more than one output, use the ear-pad or head-phone output, the other might just grab the internal Olympus microphone. If you're working with a laptop, ensure that it has a separate line-in connection or that...
