You can measure the rms value with the contrast tool (Analyze menu)
Librivox has additionally a analyse tool of its own to run on the exported mp3.

Re: Meeting ACX Requirements w/ Audacity
Limiting by 3 to 5 dB is probably the best compromise between energy preservation and distortion. I know this immediately gives everyone a bad taste, but how different is this from Effect > Leveler? I was able to get remarkably close to the required density of sound with Effect > Leveler: Moderate....

Re: Consistent interface for filter effects
Those are not the same filters. The Notch filter is of second order only. Hp and Lp go up to order 8 and the first field expresses that. Sure, but each has a frequency slider and there is inconsistency in the user interface. Most users don't care about the math, and usually I don't either. :-) It's...

Re: Consistent interface for filter effects
For High and Lowpass filter dialogs, the frequency input field is not first in tab order. For notch filter, it is (which I find more convenient personally). Would it be nicer to make them consistent? It's a simple matter of Nyquist programming of course, so I can easily do it for myself if I prefer...

Re: Remove difference between tracks
What format do the songs have? Two times mono or stereo? Both .flac and stereo You can try my tool in http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=73313#p216689 to isolate the center. In order to do it properly, you have to rearrange the two files. Split them into mono. Then, make a stere...

Re: Meeting ACX Requirements w/ Audacity
Let me ask something oblique. What tools and how were they used to determine the number of times Steve's Limiter was applied, and why didn't you just crank the severity of the limiting up and apply it once? Or am I missing something important? Koz I didn't want the soft knee go down into the main s...

Re: How do I drop low frequency?
This might not really help you.
Some time ago, I wrote a Nyquist code snippet to emulate an explosion in a mine. I would probably use a long chain of echoes since the thunder bounces off all the cave's walls.

Re: Meeting ACX Requirements w/ Audacity
I still wonder where those infernal clicks come from, it's presumably a property of those snow balls. I'm not hearing anything. Did you hear problems on Ian's work? Will the work pass noise without removing them? I noticed a large bump in the Room Tone analysis around 90Hz and Steve's Voice doesn't...

Here's the mp3 of the corrected "15 take2": https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cpvrlgoab3q0h8n/AAAfKInq5gbYaTBWh-Cqr17sa?dl=0 -3 dB peak -21.5 dB Rms Biggest problems were: - Clicks (I used Paul's de-clicker, default settings + some heavier settings for certain passages) - pops (highpass filter -1...
