Re: Karaoke, Rotation, Panning & more
It is the Action choice "Remove Center Classic: Mono". There's no such option. Only "Remove Vocals" and "View Help" Then you are not using the Vocal Reduction and Isolation Effect. Get it here vocalrediso.ny . See here for how to install Nyquist plugins on Linux: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/D...

It has just been released, it seems.Starkiller2 wrote:Steve Daulton's Vocal Remover (which inverts one channel and mixes the two as mono) works.
Not sure what you mean by "classic setting".
I'm also waiting for 2.1.1 to come out

Re: Karaoke, Rotation, Panning & more
ok, let's see: I'm on Linux 64-bit (Ubuntu and Mint). The plugin doesn't work on neither of the two distros. On both plugin versions I'm using the default settings: for the "old" version Remove Vocals, Return Audio and Effect parameter 0.0; for the "slim" version Remove vocals, strength 1.0. On bot...

Re: Is this 1943 "home record" a lost cause?
You could try to make a stereo recording.
It's of course not ideal but isolating the centerr can reduce material flaws that are only on one side of the groove.

Re: Karaoke, Rotation, Panning & more
All you have to do is importing it, select all (Ctrl+a or similar), call the plug-in and hit enter. The settings should be "Remove Vocals", Strength 1.0, low-cut 120, high-cut 9000 or alike . Exactly what I did. Remove vocals doesn't work (I also tried with your last excerpt) What operating system ...

Re: Karaoke, Rotation, Panning & more
I just tried it on Audacity 2.1.0 (both plugin versions) today and it still doesn't work. Audio comes out exactly the same, nothing changes. I assume we are still talking about Dinah Washington's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO8D6Bulo0k I've recorded an excerpt and the effect works perfectly wel...

Re: common background separation
@Trebor can I use 0.8 version? I don't have Linux for LV2 and not good with compiling code from source. Is there a way to use that newer version under Windows? would be awesome! I've only ever used kn0ck0ut on Windows, just a VST plugin. I've never attempted to use kn0ck0ut on Linux. My copy of kn0...

Re: Karaoke, Rotation, Panning & more
I'm sorry, I somehow totally missed the notification email. I'll try this version first thing tomorrow and tell you if it works or not. BTW, is this forum the only way to get the "slim" version currently? As things stand at the moment: The effect will be included in the next Audacity version 2.1.1....

Re: Spectrum Comparisons
Thanks for the reply. What I do not understand is how the x/y axes can be plotted differently when it is the exact same audio file that is being played in both sides of the comparison. The frequencies match exactly in the comparisons but the decibels do not. How is that possible? A possible explana...

Re: Karaoke, Rotation, Panning & more
I did as per your instructions and it didn't work Yes, I'm using the version from the first post Ok, so you should perhaps try the slim edition. It works only with the newest Audacity version (2.1.0 or higher) The name has changed to "Vocal Reduction and Isolation", thus it will appear at the end o...
