Tip: Rstoration help
It seems common practice to transfer old recordings in stereo and then to mix the track down to mono. This removes some of the uncorrelated clicks in the two channels. However, you can do much better than this by using the "Isolate Center" option of the 2D Stereo Tool. Two examples may ill...

The tool should eventually appear in the effect menu under the slider as "2D Stereo Toolkit". Since it begins with a number it will most likely be the first item after the divider. Notes: Choose the right plug-in folder. The path is something like C:Program Files (x86)AudacityPlug-ins The ...

Re: Finding Number of Syllables per minutes (Speech Rate)
Thank you Steve, I was just going to upload a corrected version.
Strange how such things always happen in the last moment.
Rather hard to find such intruders if the screen reader doesn't speak the character.
The tool is really very simple, plenty room for improving.

Re: Finding Number of Syllables per minutes (Speech Rate)
Here's a first attempt which may need some proper adaptation to meet your needs. I've tested it with a 1:30 h long audio-book chapter (mediocre mp3 quality). I've only amplified it to 0 dB. As I've mentioned, you probably want to set threshold by first testing on a few seconds - and counting the syl...

Re: Finding Number of Syllables per minutes (Speech Rate)
I can try something in Nyquist. I've had an idea how it could be done. The code does the following: - The pauses are removed that lie under an arbitrary threshold. - The gapless sound is examined with regard to the cyclic character, i.e. if the sound is voiced or not. - The derivative shows every ch...

Re: Can I adjust audio balance?
Didn't you get my code to work? That's a pity. Maybe you'll give it another try. Just copy the code, select the stereo track, open the Nyquist Prompt, paste the code and click or press OK/Enter. When the to RMS values are virtually identical then the pan is centered in average and not based on a sing...

Re: How to layer vocals from one song over audio from anothe
I haven't tried your new version yet, Robert but what Steve means I think is that any plug-in that is not on http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Download_Nyquist_Plug-ins is still regarded as "experimental". It would be good to try and find some system for experienced / trusted users such a...

and demanding an immediate refund... I'd just give them a full refund of $0.0 ;) Yes, but as I am sure you understand, they just purchased the USB gizmo as a means to an end, and Audacity came with it. Aside from the common misconception that Audacity makes the gizmo, Audacity appears (and probably...

Re: How to layer vocals from one song over audio from anothe
... There is no "magic button" for isolating vocals. There is an article here about removing/isolating vocals: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Vocal_Removal There is also this experimental plug-in from Robert J. H. http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=216689#p216689 That's the ...

Re: Can I adjust audio balance?
I just did kozikowski's suggestion. I increased the right track by 5.5 dB then saved the file as flac. I want to clarify something. When I increase the gain and then play the file in Audacity, the right channel sound on the computer's internal speakers does increase. Am I missing a step? Clearly sp...
