Re: Changing a track rate shrinks the wave size dramatically
Short answer: You've changed the sample format instead of using the resample feature in the track menu. The former tells audacity to play 44100 samples per second instead of 11025. thus, 4 s will be played in 1 s -- the speed is increased and the audio goes up two octaves. In contrast, resampling th...

Re: audacity as default program for mp3 in windows 8
I've installed extman.exe. It allows to change standard behaviours for the different file extensions. For example, I've added several edit links to Audacity for *.wav, mp3 etc. within the context menu. I've installed the 2009 version but the newest one has a similar file size (~500 kb). There may be...

Re: Getting rid of background music
That's probably the worst segment of the whole episode for an extraction. As a rule of thumb, drums, cymbals and any noisy, voice-like sounds can't be eliminated entirely. Since this is a fully mixed down song that is added, there will be a lot with the same frequencies and common characteristics. A...

Have you some details? You can provide a link or attach a sample file. We can't see your current project.

Re: Electric effect
Here's a sample sound of the Nyquist plug-in:
I've tried to be close to the original without the strong reverberation (can always be added afterwards).
Any suggestions?

Re: Electric effect
To be honest, I am the only one who makes use of the preview option within Nyquist effects. But it isn't a feature that is strictly useful for your desired effect (if it is written as a separate effect). Actually, I thought that this electric noise would be a nice additional ambient soundeffect in a...

You can save disk space by saving the first non-modified original recording as 16 bit.
Audacity records always at 16 bit. the 32 bit quality applies only to afterwards applied effects (amplify for example).
Dither should of course set to none for this first backup.

Re: What effects are need to make a meek voice sound command
Acting is indeed the best way to create a commanding voice. However, there are some things that can improve the effect by post-processing. Compression is not a thing I would use for this, quite the contrary. - Accents ar very prominent, so use an expander. - The overall volume goes down, therefore w...

Re: Help Making Awesome Sound Effects
Here's a six second test with just the vocoder against pink noise. No other effects yet. Koz The " mda talkbox " is a better vocoder than Audacity's native vocoder if the objective is comprehensible robotic speech ... before-after ''mda talkbox'' [high-resolution vocoder].mp3 "mda ta...

Re: Nyquist vocoder plugin not working
Thanks a lot for your help! Everything worked as planned and the results were similar to what you had in the other thread. I think I found out what I was doing wrong: the voice sample, although it's volume was normal, had a rate of 22.05 kHz when the carrier channel and the project rates were both ...
