Yes, the kx drivers are more complicated, especially the kx Mixer utility which shows more inputs and in ways I'm not used to, but it definitely seems to provide more control. Also, once kx is installed, the standard Windows volume control window seems no longer capable of controlling all the inputs...

By changing to the independently-developed kx driver (Version: 5, 10, 00, 3550 from http://kxproject.lugosoft.com ), I was able to get recording working at 48000 Hz and the level meter worked too. By the way, I just tested 2.0.0 rc5 and I'm having the identical problem there as well. Occasionally I'd get a popup window with some kind of latency warning/error after I stopped recording at 48k, but I can't consistently reproduce it yet, and I have no idea if it's relevant. Check that it's recording correctly at 44.1 kHz, then Undo (or delete the recorded track) and change the Project Rate in Audacity to 48000 (bottom left corner of the main Audacity window) and try recording a new track.
