i can see the sound is there on the little sound o meter as i am putting it in, and i can see it not appearing on the track, or occasionally appearing and then gradually degrading and sputtering out as it would if the mic lead was dying. which is what made me think 'ah, the usb'. nigh on certainly, ...

mmm hmm. tbh i quite like having them in the speakers. the end product is gonna come out of the speakers, that's where i wanna hear the recording, then i know how close it is to the end product.

the headphone socket in the tascam requires a small to big jack converter which is one of those objects i have never been able to keep hold of.

i don't use the phone jack in the tascam, in fact i can't, i have the headphones in the speakers. if i record a blank track ie with no mic or guitar line going in to the tascam, then i still get trash. if i use stereo it is in the left channel with the right empty, but i normally use mono anyway. i ...
