Re: How Do I Uninstall Old version?

V1.3.14 Beta will coexist alongside v1.2.6. You do not need to uninstall the old version in order to get the new version up and running - although you may want to do a tidy up once you feel comfortable with the new version.

Re: Lost file - help!

There never will be any audio in the aup file. That is Audacity's project file and it contains only information for Audacity to use. We might be able to make some more progress. If you have any doubts at any stage understanding what I am suggesting you do - STOP and post a clarification question. It...

Re: Lost file - help!

What are the names of the two folders? Those exxxxxx.au files are Audacity's data files that it associated with your Audacity project file (projectname.aup - where projectname is the name that you used to save the project, if you did save it). If you can find a xxxxx.aup with a name that matches one...

Bulk conversion of WAV to MP3

Can Audacity help me to do a bulk conversion of WAV files to MP3 files? If not, can anyone suggest suitable products (preferably free) that can do the job. I'm currently using v1.3.14 but have just downloaded and installed v2.0 RC1. The PC is a Windows 7 system. My reason for asking? I've just chang...

Re: Distortion/noise

There has been a recent discussion involving Ableton kit. You might want to run a search here on the forum to try and find that and read through it.

Re: I want to slow an audio file down but cant seem to do it

If you are using Audacity v1.3.14 (which I what I am familiar with), you proceed as follows: File...Import... your audio track Select the entire track Effects...Change tempo... Note how long this says the track is and in the input field, key a smaller number. For example: If the Change Tempo window ...

Re: How to remove vocals?

It is impossible to remove just one instrument (in this case the human voice) from a mixed-down recording. The only way that success can be guaranteed is to have access to the individual tracks that make up the original recording, and then do your own re-mix. Yes, Audacity has an Effect called "Voca...

Re: Cannot record

Just a thought... Much of the investigation so far seems to have focussed on the possibility of it being some kind of "ground loop" feedback. But doesn't that usually manifest itself as a hum close to mains frequency (60Hz in US, 50Hz in UK)? We know that the makers of our PCs and sound cards are tr...

Re: How to join recordings?

Depending upon number and length, one option would be to File...Import each one as a separate track withing the one project. Then use the Timeshift tool (double-ended arrow) to drag each of them into their respective positions before finally, File...Exporting the assembly as a WAV and then as an MP3...

Re: Waveform Development

I'll begin by stating that I am only a "reasonably intelligent layman", not an "expert". My understanding of the physics of sound is that we perceive sound as a consequence of the minute changes in pressure that fall upon our ears as the sound wave arrives (probably on the ear drum but I could be wr...
