That's what is called a "clipped" recording. The recording equipment (mobile phone or iWotsit?) has been over-loaded with signal. When it's that bad, I'm afraid there's nothing you can do to get a good recording from it.

Are you able to find your last file by launching Audacity and then doing File...Recent Files...? If so, are then able to open it into Audacity?

A 90 minute sound file could take a couple of minutes to load up into the computer so that you can begin work on it. How long did you wait before killing the task?

I think you must be referencing the wrong version of the manual. There is no mention of the Solo buttons on the Preferences > Interface page of the v2.0 manual. The Solo button is found under Preferences > Tracks.
