Re: stops repsonding while recording
Further to Steve's questions: what hard drive environment do you have? I use four Seagate "Portable hard-drives" - external USB connect. They are designed to work with laptops and have in-built power-saving features - they "go to sleep" when not accessed, in order to save power. I use them connected...

Re: Aligning Bass Guitar and Drums.
An alternative approach, possibly worked in tandem with the other one would be: select the part you want to move and split it off onto a separate track then use the timeshift tool to reposition that part. If you are always bringing things forward along the timeline a small fade-in/fade-out pair woul...

Very slow connecting to website
It was incredibly slow to connect to the Home page this morning at c.06:30-07:00 GMT+1. Is this timeslot a regular scheduled maintenance slot that I should avoid? Is there a published schedule for the planned downtime on the server(s)? The slowness was only in connecting to the Home page. Once in th...

Re: Aligning Bass Guitar and Drums.
If you are talking about very small drifts out of synch you could try making small selections and using the Effects > Change Tempo to stretch/shrink that selection. This effect does not change the pitch of the music. I use it to alter the duration of an entire piece of music but it works on any sele...

To import WMA format files you need to download and install the FFMpeg libraries.

Re: Sound fades in and out.
It is possible that what you are hearing is the result of the original cassette tape being recorded with some kind of "auto gain" function active. If you plug headphones into the cassette player and listen to that tape, is the variation in sound level heard? If so, the problem is with the source rec...

Re: output volume is too low vs input volume
I have headphones plugged into the Yamaha interface. I am listening thru head phones plugged into my yamaha audiogram interface. @steve, Is having the headphones connected to the Yamaha the cause of the "cannot hear piano on playback? Is speaco's set up actually trying to monitor Audacity output at...

That's not something I've ever done, so cannot make any observation that might help you. Dare I suggest: Suck it and see!

Re: making a silk purse from a sows ear
Could be. In comparison to, say, a WAV file, an MP3 file has been "audibly damaged" by the process of compression. When opening that file in a sound editor software program and applying a second dose of compression (in your case to a higher bit rate - 128 to 192) there is a real likelihood of making...

Re: Normalize 2 recording samples
Some of the highly experienced forum members may be able to suggest post-processing techniques that might rescue your work. However, it sounds to me as though you have two different "room acoustics" in that sample. I would be inclined to think that the two recordings were made on two different days,...
