Backing up and Archiving

I've opened this topic because of a statement made in another topic elsewhere on the forum. Do not rely on Audacity projects for long-term backups. They have an internal format that is primarily designed for processing speed - so the projects are designed to be used in the production process and whe...

Re: Recording Quality

The sound on Youtube is likely to have been heavily compressed already (and therefore audibly "damaged"). When you import or record that sound into Audacity you capture the damage. When you then export as an MP3 you apply MP3 compression a second time and add further damage to the captured damage - ...

Re: Pause Button Does Not Work During Recording

If you do not have the TT connected, and then set Audacity to record using the laptop's in-built mic, does the Pause button work?

Re: Sound fades in and out.

If you discover that the real problem was on the original tape cassette recording, you can, after recording the tape into Audacity, try recovering the volume level by using the Envelope tool to selectively increase the quiet parts. It may not be perfect but it's worth a try.

Re: Very slow connecting to website

Sorry I wasn't precise enough! I was referring to the Forum Home Page (http://forum.audacityteam.org/). I have no idea what my IP address would have been yesterday. Today it is 86.2.18.194 according to that website you pointed me at. I have no idea whether this would have the IP address yeste...

Re: FFmpeg library not found

I'm a Windows user so treat what I say with appropriate caution. I have my LAME and FFMPEG libraries stored in the same place rather than in different places. Have you tried putting your FFMPEG libraries in the same place as the LAME libraries?
