Re: Combining Windows Media Player Plaback with Microphone I
Thanks, that's a good thought and one that hadn't occurred to me. I will certainly consider that for full accompaniments. What I am struggling with just now is getting a tone into Audacity. I use a drone note to check my pitch as I sing a song unaccompanied and as that is generated by a program runn...

Combining Windows Media Player Playback with Mic Input
Hi I am trying to record a vocal track over an accompaniment played by Windows Media Player. I am using a laptop with the following configuration Operating System Windows 7 Professional 32-bit SP1 CPU Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo @ 1.20GHz 69 °C Merom 65nm Technology RAM 3.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 332MHz...

Re: Audio CD Capacity
Thanks Koz I made a CD the way you suggest using ImgBurn. It plays in my car - which also shows the titling - and on my PC but won't play on my BOSE CD player. This is in-line with what you're saying I think. I'll see how my singing group get on; I think some of them will want to play the CD on CD p...

Audio CD Capacity
Can someone explain something to me? The Audacity Help says "Because audio CDs must always contain uncompressed 44100 Hz 16-bit stereo audio, they are necessarily limited on a 650 MB ("Red Book Standard") or 700 MB audio CD to 74 - 80 minutes playing time respectively. " Which makes me assume that a...

Automating Filename Editing
Does anyone know of a means whereby I can automate the process of inserting spaces into song titles and filenames that have been constructed to conform with the old Windows format where filenames were constructed with initial capital letters instead of spaces to identify the separate words which wer...

Re: Audacity as an aid to Harmony Singers
It should be possible to double click the AUP Project Manager file and it will automatically launch Audacity with all the tracks and tools ready to go. Two clicks. Good tip; thank you. Audacity Projects do not save UNDO. You can't launch a project and "step back" to an earlier place in your editing...

Re: Audacity as an aid to Harmony Singers
Hi Robert
I've uploaded a project containing all 4 tracks into my DropBox account. If you send me an email address I can share it.

Re: Audacity as an aid to Harmony Singers
Hi Robert and Koz The underlying purpose of what I am trying to do is to compensate for the problem of the "missing" voice part. Although I mainly sing in chorus, the heart of barbershop is the quartet but to quartet you need four different voices each of which knows the song you want to sing. I hop...

Re: Audacity as an aid to Harmony Singers
Hi Robert Thanks very much for all your help. I didn't know about the import multiple tracks in 1 go feature; that's a real Godsend. I've been doing them 1 by 1. I've got MP3 output set to 128Kps; is that about right? On MP3 export options, can you say what Joint Stereo as opposed to Stereo means? I...

Re: Audacity as an aid to Harmony Singers
Hi Robert
I had a go and it appears to work fine. The tracks are preserved in the output file and can be soloed or muted when played back.
Is there anyway I can reduce the tracks to mono from the original stereo recording?
