Thanks WC for the tip, I finally found the environment setting, it was on "Stone Corridor" as default as I had not set it. So therein lay the problem, I have set it to "Padded Cell" which sounds 100% over the original setting. Thanks again for your assistance Jim Apologies , guess I should have look...

Thanks you are a genius, I selected Line In for Recording in Preferences which proved to be the answer. I now have continual feed in and able to control the volume also.
