Re: Incorrect AAC Opening
Audacity uses QuickTime to import AAC on Mac if FFmpeg is not present. Thanks for the reply. Sound Studio 2 also uses QuickTime, but it opens the file correctly (stereo, 44.1kHz). Is it possible to post the file to yousendit, sendspace, megaupload or some other file transfer service? Unfortunately,...

Incorrect AAC Opening
Audacity v1.3.13-beta, Mac OS X v10.6.8 Attempting to open an MP4 file with Audacity (without ffmpeg) yields incorrect parameters. The file is 44.1kHz, stereo, 16-bit AAC, 48kbps profile: High-Efficiency v2 encoder: Lavf52.94.0 Audacity opens it as mono, 22kHz. The only difference between "open" and...

Re: Questions about labels and saving
It should work like this. It does work like this I'm very sorry, but I don't understand your reply. You're either describing how Audacity does work -- which we already know; or you're telling me that your copy of Audacity already works the way I think it should work -- in which case you must be usi...

Re: Questions about labels and saving
Does SS let you split and pull apart tracks into clips independent of the selection? No. Let's be clear about this. I'm talking about a version which is 10 years old. SS 2 is plain 2-channel single track; it does not do multi-track nor a lot of other things (eg, VST). I'm not saying it is more powe...

Re: Questions about labels and saving
unless you can mark that selection in some way you then must export the segments one at a time, whereas Audacity lets you label all the segments first and then export multiple files. I don't understand how you acquired that impression. Of course you can the same thing in SS. I wrote quite clearly t...

Re: Questions about labels and saving
Lame is not the fastest MP3 encoder, but it is a high quality encoder (one of the very best). I don't use it with Audacity (as I wrote, I find few uses for the latter), but with iTunes, thanks to an app called iTunes-LAME. I encode with iT when I need speed and with LAME when I need quality, and th...

Re: Questions about labels and saving
Actually all versions of Audacity up to and including 1.3.13 the latest Beta do do precisely that. Thank you. Back in 2006 (Audacity was then at v1.2.4) I exchanged a few emails with someone from the team on this and other topics. I must have misunderstood him, because I acquired the impression tha...

Re: Questions about labels and saving
If for example the sound is recorded properly in the right channel but rather weak in the left channel, all I do is highlight the sound in the right channel and paste it in the left channel. I don't understand why you want to do that. What you achieve is two-channel mono, ie, waste of disk space an...

Re: Questions about labels and saving
I then press option left arrow to go back to the first marker, and then shift-option right arrow to select the sound between the two markers. I don't understand why the OP needs to do that. To select the region in Sound Studio, he doesn't need to go back to the first marker -- he just needs to pres...
