Following up on this issue, it turned out to be a simple fix. By pressing command-3 repeatedly I was able to zoom out on the soundwave so that the meter (or whatever the moving vertical bar is called) never goes out of frame or reaches the end of the frame. I ended up recording the podcast in GarageBand without issue during recording. GB acted up a little during editing as far as performance, but recording was fine.kozikowski wrote: Did you decide to try out that new Vonage service? Any other audio services running?

Do an INFO on your hard drive. Audacity hates full drives; full being anything over 90%. Over on the video forums, bells ring whenever somebody says "It's worked forever and then suddenly it's making all sorts of errors." This may be a case where Audacity 1.3.x is in your future.
