MP3 conversion (which is a two step Macro as it has Normalize and Export)
Ah, right, my mistake.

it seems to bounce … just once each time
Weird. Mine bounces continually until I switch to Audacity. Always has, as far as I recall. But thanks for checking!

Re: Bouncing Dock icon when something expected and normal happens

I cannot reproduce "bouncing icons" when I run Macros - I tested with a 90 minute project and a 90 minute WAV file - and on 2.3.0 Audacity and on the alpha test for 2.3.1 I observed no bouncing icons in the Dock while the Macro worked. Was this with a multi-step macro? In my experience, it only (an...

Bouncing Dock icon when something expected and normal happens

Is there any way to disable the icon’s bouncing in the Dock when running macros/chains in the background (preferably without disabling all bouncing for all apps forever)? In every version of Audacity I have ever used, whenever a macro progresses to the next task, Audacity often sees fit to notify me...

This happens with 2.3.0 in MacOS 10.13.6, but not with the latest 64bit Audacity 2.3.1 alpha build.
Where would one be able to download the alpha build? Or is it too unstable for normal use?

Re: Macros crash in background

It's not any particular macro, though. It's every multi-step macro I have, between any two steps where Audacity is not the foreground app at that instant. (As long as I do nothing but stare at Audacity and make sure the screensaver doesn't kick on, no macro ever crashes.) But I'll do some experiment...

Macros crash in background

Audacity 2.3.0 under macOS 10.14.3. While running any macro (formerly called “chains”), Audacity crashes if it’s in the background while transitioning between tasks. 100% reproducible for me—start a macro, click on the desktop or any other window, crash as soon as a progress bar finishes. Not sure w...

Whatever benefits it might have. Why wouldn’t I? And if there’s no benefit, why would they bother to update the Windows version for Audacity?

Re: Newer codec versions

Ah. But then what about on Unix/Linux? It seems that there, Audacity uses the same libraries that everyone else uses, rather than custom-built ones. And, again, why are Mac users stuck with a version that’s four years old?

Newer codec versions

The version of LAME that Mac Audacity users are told to download is four years old, version 3.98.2. (Incidentally, Windows users can use a version that’s less than a year old; what’s up with that?) I installed LAME 3.99.5 through MacPorts, and Audacity didn’t recognize that it was installed. I tried...

Re: Freezes while editing

Saving the project before editing had no discernible effect; Audacity 1.3.13 and .14 still froze for anywhere from several seconds to a full minute whenever I deleted a bit of audio, and 1.3.12 still does it in under a second. And I don’t think I mentioned it before, but this was at normal zoom, so ...
