Re: Why do these 2 soundtracks look so different?
Thanks much. I just watched a video on clipping on youtube, so I see the top and bottom of the waves are flattened due to excessive volume. I will check out your Wikipedia reference. If you're not careful, you learn something every day. Thanks again, Steve!

Re: Why do these 2 soundtracks look so different?
Thanks very much for your answer, Steve. At the risk of sounding like an ignoramus, what is clipping? I see that it is not under "Effects" in Audacity.

Why do these 2 soundtracks look so different?
Why do these 2 soundtracks look so different? They come from the same cassette tape. The top one I made years ago, and it sounds much better than the bottom one, which I just made. I can't figure out what I did differently. Does anyone know? I am using v. 2.0.6 and Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, and I downl...

Re: Audacity adds unwated "swishy" backgroun noise
When I first installed 1.3. it worked fine. I was having some problem which I don't remember, so I uninstalled it and installed 1.2.6. When I tried to reinstall 1.3, it now works super slowly. I am using Windows 7, and have 760 GB free out of 920 GB. Here are the computer stats: Mfg: Dell Model: Stu...

Re: Audacity adds unwated "swishy" backgroun noise
I had awful problems with 1.3, even after uninstalling and reinstalling it. It took about 90 seconds to open, and every time I opened the Preferences window and tried to make any kind of change, the program would freeze altogether and I'd have to use the Task Manager to close it. I am trying to remo...

Audacity adds unwated "swishy" backgroun noise
Adacity noise removal works very well, but almost always adds a peculiar "swishy" sound which was not originally there.

Re: audacity stops working when trying to record
I tried 3 times to go to Effects and uncheck everything there. Every time, the program froze until I ended it. Then I tried unchecking only "VST" under Enabled Effects and "Display VST effects in graphical mode" under VST Effects. Same result. If I don't uncheck anything, it does not freeze. I am us...

Re: audacity stops working when trying to record
Update ... finally got the program to accept the Settings change, it just seems to be working super slowly. Opening still takes about 90 seconds. Also, when I record 2 tracks, they are not synchronized, even though I could hear the first one while recording the second one. They are 1 or 2 seconds of...

Re: audacity stops working when trying to record
I was trying to use 1.2.6, and recording from a microphone. I have since uninstalled it and installed the Beta 1.3.13. The first time, I was able to record a couple of tracks with no problem. After that, the program takes 90 seconds to open. As soon as I click on Edit, Preferences, Recording and cli...
