Re: A newb question about loudness
One way to do this is to select "Equalization" under "Effects", and then click and drag points on the line so that it's at the bottom (-30dB) from 0Hz to 150Hz, and then goes up to -6 or -9dB from 150Hz to 400Hz, and then stays at 0dB the rest of the way. --Allen

What do you mean? There's 1.2.5, right? --AllenIn Mac land, if you're on an Intel machine with Leopard operating system, there is no 1.2.

Re: Audacity 1.3.7 crashes while compressing
I too am an avid user of Chris Capel's compressor. Just last week, I noticed that his latest release crashes Audacity when the selection I'm compressing starts very near, but not quite at, the beginning of the track. I've been meaning to write Chris about this, but I've been putting it off until I c...

Re: hum removal
Oops; I posted before seeing Koz's response. Anyway, Koz: I can't run both 1.2 and 1.3 at once? What bad happens? If I've been doing that, do I need to purge some preferences file somewhere? --Allen

Re: hum removal
What I've used for hum is a "notch filter" or "parametric EQ" (I think they're the same thing). I use an Apple thingy that you won't have, but I see there's a "Mag's Notch Filter" in the set of LADSPA plug-ins ( http://audacityteam.org/download/plugins ) that would probably do the same thing. I've u...

Re: Changing Stereo to Mono
Why can't you use "Stereo Track to Mono"? Because the command is not there? Or you tried and got an error, or nothing happened? What version of Audacity are you using? I use 1.3.7, but I just checked 1.2.6 and I see that "Stereo Track to Mono" is not there. So one option might be to install 1.3.7, i...

Re: Changing Stereo to Mono
Hmm... You answer "yes" to my question, but you also say you "split the stereo". Splitting the stereo is a more difficult method than the one I asked if you had tried. Try selecting your stereo track, and then clicking "Stereo Track to Mono" under the "Tracks" menu. It's simpler and it should work j...

Re: How do I record on two different tracks at once?
I've never tried this. Here's a link. Sounds like your best option is to use software by the company providing the VOIP service, but it might be possible to make Audacity do it. --Allen

Re: How do I record on two different tracks at once?
See this page on the wiki: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Multichannel_Recording You need special equipment to do true multi-channel recording. But you say one thing you're trying to record is a stereo mix from your computer: is this some sort of live streaming thing? You'd have troubl...
