Re: Converting 8bit to 16bit WAV files
That post 'snuck away from me' - I was actually trying to create the attachment you asked for, but my device (new to me) is not behaving as I expect i.e. I can't find the WAV it is supposed to produce (and did before). The following is what I untended to record and send to you/here "It occurred to m...

Re: Converting 8bit to 16bit WAV files
<<Are you familiar with the Knowbrainer forum>> I saw THAT term for the first time recently - in THIS thread I think. I have checked your URL. I suspect that the instructions I unsuccessfully followed to set up a NEW USER for WAV input came from that source. B.T.W. I found it impossible to access th...

Re: Converting 8bit to 16bit WAV files
I had a rethink - and decided what I wanted from THIS exercise was not accurate transcription, but to see if I could get Audacity to convert a WAV file for me so that DRAGON could analyse it. When I chose a trained USER, instead of the new one which stalemated me, Dragon COULD proceed with analysis....

Re: Converting 8bit to 16bit WAV files
So much for the VERY SOON. I've finally had the chance to get back to the matter. I can not tell whether the sampling rate issue has been resolved, because I can not make progress with Dragon in the way outlined on the web by one of their technicians. He said on NO account to train Dragon for the 'u...

Re: Converting 8bit to 16bit WAV files
Irrespective of the outcome, I really appreciate your perseverance with this. I should know VERY soon if this is THE remedy.

Re: Converting 8bit to 16bit WAV files
When I open (import) the 8bit file into Audacity, the 'graph' that appears, actually has the word 'mono' written in the top left. I have done some reading about minimum requirements for Dragon, and there is also a bottom frequency threshold of 11KHz : "the sample frequency can be from 11.025 kHz up ...

Re: Converting 8bit to 16bit WAV files
If I read 'files' for filer' and 16-bit for 1-bit, then indeed it is a very straightforward procedure. Sadly, Dragon's disapproval has stayed constant : " .... is not a 16-bit mono wave file or has an invalid sampling rate." Since I converted it to 16bit by your procedure, the sampling rate must be ...

Converting 8bit to 16bit WAV files
I have come to Audacity because I want Dragon Naturally Speaking to convert 8bit WAV files of speech to written text, however Dragon needs 16bit files, and I read that Audacity can convert 8bit to 16bit. I have no clue how to do this and would like some pointers.
