I'd like something that the input level can be controlled by the slider right there in Audacity. Is there anything that works right with Audacity besides a straight microphone?

I've got a lot of clipping from my UCA202 input into Audacity 1.3.12 beta. I can't find a way to pull the input level down ANYWHERE! Please send clues? Do I need the ASIO driver I've heard of?
