You wrote that you're putting a course together. Are there other students in that course? Can you ask them for help? Send out an email, let them know you're under the gun, b/c the interviews are in a matter of days. Are you a member of a house of worship, church, synagogue, temple? Can you ask for h...

How Do I improve the quality?
Koz and/or Steve: How do I make this sound better? Using Audacity 1.3.12 and Windows XP. I speak into a Sony hand-held ICD-P520 digital recorder, bought for approx $60. There are 2 sensitivity settings on the Sony, low and high. I'm guessing...high sensitivity seems to amplify my voice as I'm record...

Recording meter wont start moving
What version of Audacity are you using?
What operating system? Ex: Windows Vista
Are you saying it's creating a new track (in the middle of the screen), but the meter (at the top of the screen) isn't moving?

Noise Removal - Change the way you say it
I'm a newbie. It took me 20 minutes to figure out how to remove noise... mainly because I couldn't understand the directions. Would someone please rewrite it so the directions are more clear? IF NOTHING ELSE, AT LEAST REWRITE IT SO IT'S 5 STEPS. SO IT'S CLEAR THEY WANT YOU TO SELECT THE AUDIO FIRST,...

Koz & Steve: You asked me to re-upload. I have attached a clip. I took the original recording. Amplified 10 dB. Nothing else. Yes, it's insanely noisy. Please don't spend ALOT of time commenting on this clip. I took your suggestions, made changes, and the new clip sounds much better, with less noise...

Koz and/or Steve: I'm learning so much! A few quick questions: When I do noise reduction, the volume decreases. Which do you suggest? First amplify, second do noise reduction? Or... First do noise reduction, second amplify? When I do amplify - do you have any guidelines? Is there such a thing as too...

Re: After noise removal I hear wind chimes.
Hi Koz! Yes, it's a RadioShack 33-3013 microphone. If I'm hearing you right, you're saying the mic works well. Whew! Glad I know it's adequate for what I need. The problems I'm having have to do with the sound from my computer. The two links you added, I couldn't open them. Couldn't hear them. Lisa ...

Steve, Again, thank you for your help. The noise on laptop is probably from electrical noise + cheap microphone input components + mechanical noises such as the whirring of cooling fans. Using Audacity 1.3.12. I started over, from scratch. I pulled the power cord out of the computer; computer was ru...

Re: After noise removal I hear wind chimes.
Steve,
Thanks for the tips. I used noise removal in Audacity 1.3 and... much much better. Thank you.

Next question... I think most of the noise is coming from my notebook computer. Is there a lower-cost way I can fix that?
