Unchecking that "Software Playthrough" so as to be OFF in the Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu." did the trick! THANK YOU! I suggest that what you said be included on the page where it tells how to record streaming. I am sure others have had similar problems.

I tried it without the cable, and there is still an echo, but not as bad, and I adjusted down the volume, but it still isn't a perfect recording. Do some sites send out streaming thru something that would make and echo?

Streaming with cable input output creates echo
I referred to the audacity page that tells how to record streaming from internet. I have Audacity 1.2.6. I set it to "stereo mix." I use a cable and plug it in to Audio In and the other end to Audio Out. I get an echo when I play it back. I know I used to could do it, so what else do I need to chan...
