Some USB connections don't have controls. The import point is getting the bouncing sound meters when you perform. Do you?

Re: Recording - mac 10.13.3 with audacity 2.2.2
Apple (upper left) > System Preferences > Sound. You should be able to see your connection or interface in the list and if you select it, you should see the bouncing ball sound meter move. While you're in there, make sure the volume sliders are all turned up. Audacity gets sound from the computer, n...

Re: Recording what my headphones hear / fully digital captur
So is SPDIF a directly digital capture process? S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) is a digital sound transfer system. It's a cousin to the much larger digital sound services on broadcast videotape machines. I don't think the ringtones on an iPhone are easily available for transfer out of the ...

Re: Can't export in any format
You need to stay with us. Did you Save the work as an Audacity Project? you should probably do that right now. File > Save Project. If you can't, then the podcast may be trash.

Re: isn't recording singing part
You mean you're singing to a live vinyl playback? Are you going through a mixer or other multi-channel interface? If not, then Audacity is going to get you or the music, not both. Audacity can't deal with more than one source. If I missed that, then it could be how you connected the two players. If ...

Re: pause isn't working
You're pressing the "P" key? Does it work if you click on the pause icon? What else is running on your machine that could be taking up the P key? Audacity doesn't play well with others. You can reassign pause to another key. It's a preference. Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Keyboard > Key...

Re: Cannot remove background music
There is no way to get the background music? Vocal Removal and Isolation doesn't work with a mono sound track (one blue sound wave). The other half of that is Audacity will not split a show into individual voices, sounds and instruments. Those two are very popular requests. The solution is elusive....

Re: Can't export in any format
Actually, High Sierra is macOS. Not OSX. I would probably Save a Project to keep the show from falling apart if something nasty happens. A Project is an AUP project manager file and a _DATA folder with the sound snippets in it. Do not separate or rename them. Did you actually install Audacity? Drag ...
