Re: Standard chain settings for ACX production

when I ran the mic cable out to the desktop, I got a high pitched hum We never found out what your microphone chain was. What is it? Some configurations are expected to work perfectly correctly with long microphone cables, but there are others limited to about five feet. Can you post a WAV sample o...

Re: Questions From New Narrator

See? Other people wouldn't mind you reading to them, either. I'll have a lot better idea whether I'm any good at narrating or not. Oh, it's so much worse than that. When you get to the end of the first book, you'll want nothing more than go back and read it all again. "Goodness, I was really te...

Test 4.1 Corrected.wav Almost identical. I did think about this a little when I was designing the suite. In General, if the last two steps aren't needed, they don't do anything. So there's no down side. RMS Normalize may, for example, correct your clip loudness from -20dB to -20dB. Noise Reduction ...

Re: Questions From New Narrator

While all that happens, it's time for the disclaimer: There is no acting filter. If ACX or the client rejects you for theatrical acting reasons, you're on your own. When you read in your apartment, you have to be your own recording engineer and acting coach. Your newspaper test came out better than ...

Re: URGENT - multitrack saved as au files

the logic behind the file naming doesn't allow for determining what files are sequential. Right. The only way to put them back together is if you didn't apply any corrections and you use a tool that looks at the time and date stamps . Those do track, but they're not very accurate. You can get a ste...

Re: Questions From New Narrator

Interestingly, the raw clip also passed the check with no problem. You win! Nobody wrote that you can't read right into ACX conformance. It is possible. It's just most people can't. You also present an interesting conundrum. Should you go through Mastering or not? If you don't, then you have to rea...

Re: Questions From New Narrator

Test 4.aup isn't a sound file. AUP is an Audacity Project Manager. It goes with a similarly named _DATA folder which has the actual sound. That's a project. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MyMusicAUP-MyMusic_DATA.jpg That's only really useful if you have a complicated edit and you want to pick i...

Re: RMS Normalize seems to undo everything else

I may have found the culprit just now. An article entitled something like "how to get your file to pass acx" and noise r is their golden rule Link?? So they expect you to deliver a file that's ready to go. Ready to go into their archive. I'm betting they routinely resample to get to their...

Re: Standard chain settings for ACX production

NO PLUGINS Some people find how hard it is to get a good sounding presentation in the average apartment and resort to tricks like threshold gates, extreme noise reduction, notch filters, etc. etc. etc. We warn people you can't get there by beating your voice bloody with a stick. After you pass the ...
