Re: "Audacity failed to read file on drive c:"
Are you using punctuation marks in your filenames? Dates, for example? If you select your filenames wrong, you can force the machine to look for directories that don't exist. Upper, Lower, Numbers, -dash- and _underscore_ are the only unconditionally safe characters. Your machine may allow others, b...

Re: saving a project
WAV is good. The only reason you would need Projects is if you needed to save the timelines and graphic layouts. WAV won't do multi-track. But it's still not a good idea. WAV files are good for archive storage.

Re: Recording Coming in Delayed
You can correct for Recording Latency. Are you sure the rhythm is off, too? That's much more serious. Can you tell if the new track is shorter or plays at higher pitch than the backing track? That's a machine speed problem. A machine that can't keep up will make a faster track at higher pitch. You c...

Re: Mixer or Interface
Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording: [_] Playthrough.without the first track coming through the microphone as well
Turn off Playthrough. Audacity Overdubbing automatically forwards the backing track to your headphones when you record.

Re: Exporting 16 bit wav file
Audacity doesn't have "Clip INFO." You can do that with other software such as Media INFO. Be careful to get the program without all the add-on extras. If you Export an Audacity show as WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit and you left Audacity sample rate default as 44100, and the show is shorter than ...

Re: Recording without any speakers or microphone (windows 10
All that and it's not recommended for Skype or other chat or conferencing just because it doesn't work very well (or at all). We've been known to put a stand-alone machine onto a conference whose sole job is to record the conference. It has no microphone—it's a silent partner. Then record everything...

Re: getting mono only in recording
It's possible to wire a cartridge so the left and right are out of phase (don't ask how I know that). Everything will seem OK until you listen on a mono device or reduce to mono for any reason in production. Everything in the middle will vanish. It's exactly the same effect as Vocal Removal in audio...

Re: Questions From New Narrator
My voice always sounds different to me when it is recorded. Leading to the common complaint, "Do I really sound like that?" Probably, yes. I have a very odd microphone that does a respectable job by capturing the sound bouncing around inside my ear. It's used to capture telephone conversa...
