Re: Setting a fixed scale for frequency analysis
And there is a slimy way to get around this. Include a blast of 1KHz tone at -1dB at the beginning or the end of the show. Something obvious it's not part of the actual performance. That tone should take over the display calibration.

Re: please see log and and help open a project
Most of the log has to do with listings of add-on software. It's only the last sentence or so that's important. It claims a damaged or missing AUP file—which is old news.

at the beginning first few seconds of the project. No backup. Tried recovery You went straight from describing the beginning of the process to the end. What did you do in the middle? Are you using Audacity 2.2.1? Did you File > Save As: after application of your silence tool?? Can I create a new pr...

Re: Why are there so many e08__ data files in a recording?
You should probably not be using Audacity Projects. File > Export: WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit for preserving original performances and finals. Deliver to the client that way, too, unless they require a different format. Only Audacity users can open Projects, but everybody can open WAV files. Audacity Pr...

In the comfortable middle, you do what you need to do to make the Audacity bouncing sound meter occasionally hit -6dB to -10dB (start...

Re: Recording my podcast in Audacity

I know senior recording engineers who can do that, but even they would have trouble and they wouldn't be using home equipment. One bookkeeping note. You may discover by the time you get the automatic technique to sound right, you could have gone in and done it manually.

Re: Apply EQ Only Above a Specified Volume Level
...once the wave form gets above a certain db level That would be nice, but it doesn't work that way. Tools that affect character of the performance work by average and guesswork, not where the blue waves go. That's why those tools have settings for attack and release times, level settings, effect ...

And playing the forum card for a minute: if you do sort it out, post how you did it. A terrific number of our solutions are personal experiences or reports of outside solutions, not only notes from the Program Development Division.
