Re: One mic is always quieter than the other

I decided to make it easier and switch to a mono recording. I don't know that's a good idea. Some systems when run in mono make it twice as likely to create peak distortion. Go back to stereo and answer the questions in the above post. What actually happens when you speak or scratch each microphone...

Re: Noise Gates

are there other noise gates that work with Audacity, and if so, anyone recommend any?
I don't know of any but somebody else may post.

What do we need our noise gate for? What's the show?

Re: Help with Noise Gate installation

If you're at a foreign machine, make sure nobody turned filename extensions off. Desktop > Finder > Preferences > Advanced > Show all filenames. Then make sure you really got a Nyquist file and not the TXT version of the Nyquist file. You may be in the wrong Library. Go (upper toolbar) > Go To Folde...

Re: Is this possible? Headphone out to smartphone in?

We'd be doing what you're doing. Google your brains out. There's a special multi-ring connector that fits your cellphone and you need the adapter that splits out the headphone and microphone services separately. They may have one that works in one integrated cable. Even if the mixer end is 6.35mm an...

Not sure where to post this. This is good. We can move it if there's anything wrong. If you're a new poster, your messages are moderated and will not appear immediately. If you're here long enough, that will magically stop. have lost the use of the speakers on my computer. Audacity uses the service...

Re: Audacity stops / hangs mid recording

Audacity may be struggling for system resources. This is a plain USB microphone? What's the show? The panel suggests there are multiple USB things connected. What are the others? Or did I miss the graphic information? Describe the recording. As a first pass, shut down your machine and disconnect the...

Re: One mic is always quieter than the other

Your mixer is supposed to work as a 4-channel interface It's not shocking that some interfaces record as stereo but don't use the first two microphones in the interface. So there is that. I would have been reducing everything to simple stereo and do tests that way. You already know from the lights ...

Re: Noise Reduction

the AC turns on and off every ten or fifteen minutes. Any chance of recording in a room without that problem? We can try to solve it all in post production tricks, but I don't think it's ever going to sound completely transparent. Depending on the sound, we may be able to use specialized hum remove...

Re: Noise Reduction

Post a sample of your voice at normal level with the noise in the background. Do it roughly to this format. Do Not Process anything and yes, it needs to be in WAV format. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html Post the address of the instructions that said to use the whole pe...
