Re: Can I have a stereo track from one microphone?

Oh, and you won't get a "stereo" show. You will get a Mono show which, even though it's only one blue soundwave, will play to both left and right speakers.

See to the left of my picture in the INFO panel, it says MONO.

Re: setting recording levels independent of volume

I listened to "Car Talk" radio show on the actual radio for years. I started using the podcast version and it was almost unuseable from the wild volume swings. Radio version goes through the broadcast volume compressors. No compressors on the podcast. I use Chris's Compressor with the firs...

Re: Can I have a stereo track from one microphone?

If you do that, make sure you can record the full 100% on the blue sound waves. There are some cross configurations which will try to cut you off at the 50% point like this.

Re: Tracks showing but all waveforms gone

exporting each track after recording I'll put my Obsessive Engineer hat on. Many times when I record performers they're not chums of mine. They're paid actors and they will not be available after the recording. At all. This is it. I do quick sound checks after the recording and Export a WAV file wh...

Re: New way to quickly fix clipping

I'm not sure I understand. There is a Clip Fix. Maybe the name change is why you couldn't find it? https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/clip_fix.html It won't do massive clipping or repeated light clipping because it uses clean work before and after the clip to guess at the fix. If there is no clean ...

Re: 2 microphones via one USB port - impact on sound?

Samson USB "mic" (thank you) Which Samson? You can get fancy and configure some microphones for bi-directional use (figure of 8 pattern). Put you on one side and the guest on the other. Have you both wear headphones and it will be obvious when one is louder than the other. Move your chair...

Re: 2 microphones via one USB port - impact on sound?

USB microphones are aggressively non-expandable. Everybody smacks into the same problem. You can plug a second USB microphone into a second computer, run two Audacity programs and then Export and combine the two sound tracks that way. There is one odd thing you have to pay attention to, but Separate...
