Re: AudioBook Mastering version 4
Here it is. ============================ 20100401 I'm pleased to announce the first public "beta" release of the Professional Audio Filter (PAF). Some of the controls and installers are a little rough yet, and on occasion it's been known to crash in a shower of brightly colored confetti, b...

Re: AudioBook Mastering version 4
Sounds lovely doesn't it? The answer to most of that is no. Noise Reduction doesn't work reliably on moving and changing noises. So there goes gasping, mouth ticks, buses going by and planes overhead. TV on in the background is guaranteed to kill your show. Noise Reduction will try to reduce whateve...

Re: Noise Floor
As a last obsessive act, I removed a bit of silence from between each phrase to "tighten it up" a little.

Re: Noise Floor
Removing them is not just cutting them out or silencing them. One throws off the story timing and the other puts odd holes in the room sound behind you. I did it by drag-selecting a gasp and then looking at how long the time is (.63 seconds). Then I copied a 0.63 second chunk of normal room sound an...

Re: Noise Floor
Yes, but. It's a little messy, but fixable in the Audacity tools. Repaired clip attached. First three sentences and declaration 2/3 down. Screen Shot 2018-05-24 at 13.08.57.png It's not noisy. You are. [loud lip tick] She walked into the bedroom... ...the girl [loud gasp] She walked into... ...behin...

Re: Brand new and hoping for feedback
I have a couple of SM57's That's a good start. SM57's reputation is doing a bangup job for drums, but it doesn't self-destruct if you speak into it. Do you have the rest of it? The clip and the boom and stand? Noise is a super big problem with home recording. If you have noise coming up from the fl...

Re: Switching between Versions of Audacity
The aup file may have opened up in TextEdit by accident. If so, it may look something like this:
If it did, close it. Open Audacity and File > Open > Aaron Kennard Interview.aup

Re: Switching between Versions of Audacity
You should not be inside the _DATA folder. This is what a typical Audacity Project looks like. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MyMusicAUP-MyMusic_DATA.jpg When they sent you the Project, they should have sent you a folder called: Aaron Kennard Interview_data ... and a separate Project Manager fil...

Re: Brand new and hoping for feedback
look at getting some kind of XLR mic with a preamp box? You'd think I could whip out a recommendation, wouldn't you? Maybe not. I've been doing this long enough to have my own sound mixer and higher-end microphones. I never stopped at the home user stuff. I do own and like the Behringer UM2 mono pr...
