You can mix and render the five channels down to one. The sound doesn't stay 5.1 Surround when you do that, though. It turns the show into Mono (one blue wave).

Re: analog mic - soundblaster z series - monioring - and aud
All-In-One USB microphones can be made to work, too. This is a G-Track with headphone monitoring built-in. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/samsonGTrackConnections.jpg No separate mixer or other adapter. It plugs straight into your computer. I don't own this one. I borrowed it from a performan...

Re: analog mic - soundblaster z series - monioring - and aud
There's two other adapters which work this way, the Behringer UMC22 and the Scarlett Solo—in increasing price. There are much more higher-end adapters, too, but theyr'e actually harder to make work with single microphone singing. This is the UM2 fully blown out into an audiobook reading station (wit...

Re: analog mic - soundblaster z series - monioring - and aud
so that i can hear my voice through headphones when i sing into the mic. That's the hard part. You can't easily do that with the SoundBlaster card. Which microphone do you have now? It may be possible to get a SoundBlaster replacement that allows live monitoring of your voice. That's called "Z...

Re: Converting tape to MP3
Just to cover the bases, you never posted that you are running Audacity 2.2.2. Are you? I think some of the confusion may be you're leaving out pieces when you post. We can't see your machine and we don't know what's happening unless you tell us. Just from the postings so far, it's my guess you have...

Re: Why does noise gate take so long?
No. Apparently, this trick doesn't have the same effect in Win7 that it does in Win8 and Win10.y shift shutdown you mean going into safe mode, right?
So no, that's not going to help.

Re: Total beginner
Do I need speakers? No. You can do this with good quality headphones and they can plug into the Solo. I have made good quality recordings without listening, but those were stressy-emergency conditions and not recommended. Unless you're going to get someone else to master your voice track, you are g...

Did you turn Audacity off?I closed the file
We need to wait for a senior elf. I don't remember which step causes Audacity to flush its show files and its cache system.
Which version of Audacity do you have? Did you Save As and point to the existing show before you closed it?

Re: My microphone is not being picked up by audacity
Keep the papers and make sure you can send it back if it's the wrong one.
The title of the post is misleading. The computer isn't picking up the microphone. Audacity just follows the computer.
