One more. The desperation method is to sit a stand-alone sound recorder on the table between the computer speakers and your microphone. It records the room—and both sides of the conversation.
You do that if you're going to get fired if you don't produce something.

Re: Mouth noise hell
The theater sucks because I'm not an announcer. But it does pass ACX Audiobook standards and my voice oddities (lip tick city) can be fixed. But I can't imagine the built-in mic could compete with an XLR Dynamic mic.

Re: How to record google hangouts?
I want to record the google hangout and I will be using my microphone. And that's where you usually get smacked. Those two presentations are generally handled by two different devices and Audacity will only deal with one device at a time. So you can record your own microphone all day long as long a...

Re: Unable to record keyboard output using USB
I can record with the 1/4th inch pin But can you do that at the computer end? Unless you have an actual Stereo Line-In, your connection may distort the music or record in mono instead of stereo. Don't let two blue waveforms fool you. Make sure they're not identical. That's where the Behringer UCA-2...

Re: Mouth noise hell
perhaps you could get your files off that way. I'm more than half-way convinced I'm doing something wrong. I'm not that good with the iPod shortcuts and just the fact that I got it to work once tells me I just haven't caught up with where they hid the tools. Large companies sometimes have "vac...

Re: Project Automatic Recovery Fail
I never did any project save or export because I was not done with the file. It is recommended that you Export a WAV of a raw capture before you edit it, and then edit a copy. Doing that for a home project may seem silly, but it sneaks up on you for more important jobs. "I just got a sound rec...

Re: Project Automatic Recovery Fail
Maybe what Audacity thinks happened and what actually happened are different. Audacity thinks it crashed while performing some normal activity. What actually happened is the machine went down and you probably have some damaged places on the drive. I don't think there is any good recovery from that. ...

Re: Instrument removal on a stereo track
is there a way to tell audacity to take the harmonica track Sure, but you don't have a harmonica track. You have harmonica plus a little guitar. While it seems you should be able to do that, in practice, no combination of math and phase flipping is going to get you there. Plus, the "ghost"...

Re: Cannot dub over instrumental. Starts recording on the same area
It's not the microphone. Audacity has always had an "Add-On" and a "New Track" option. One was R and the other was Shift-R on the keyboard. So just use the other one. You can permanently change the behavior back the way it was in Audacity preferences. Audacity > Edit > Preference...

Re: Opinions: Isolation or delete?
Audacity can't take apart a mixed song into individual voices, instruments or sounds. I think the only option is to cut the section.
