Re: TimeMachine causes dropout during recording?
Has anyone else observed competition between TimeMachine backups and Audacity Time Machine has to stop the system long enough to do the backup. You picked two contradictory tasks. There are people who have to suspend virus services during a recording because of competing requirements. This may be y...

Re: newbie seeks recommendations
Did I ask you to intentionally overload the microphone by yelling into it? Never blow into a microphone , but yelling is allowed. Do one of the 10 second sound tests but instead of reading a passage from the milk carton in your normal voice, say "Loudness test, one two three, ONE TWO THREE"...

Re: newbie seeks recommendations
This file contains insufficient spacing at its end You do have to pay attention to the ACX requirements for submission other than sound. They need file size, silent lead-in and lead-out, chapter announcements, etc. That has little or nothing to do with Audacity. That's all up to you. When you get a...

Re: newbie seeks recommendations
you can use automation to level the volume being output to the master fader People who use large professional sound mixers in studios may be able to do that. Those sound mixers have automated voice processing and can be used to automatically set voice volume, or at least keep the volume from gettin...

her voice and mine, which is presumably entering her computer through Skype. Oddly enough, maybe not. Make sure Audacity is using your microphone proper for recording (toolbar next to the microphone symbol) and not Stereo Mix, What-U-Hear or any one of the other settings. These odd settings are use...

Re: Microphone
When you play the work, does the bouncing sound meter go all the way up and turn red, and do the blue waves fill the space top to bottom? It sounds like overload.

Re: Garageband convert.
whisper quiet in Garageband I'm encountering a lot of background noise with Audacity. That appears to be classic "cellphone" real-time noise reduction. This would make sense, since Garageband's goal is to record your musical performance, not record what's there with strict purity. Further...

Re: Garageband convert.
So this topic is nothing to do with converting GarageBand files That was a poor choice of topic titles. The problem seems to be a Garageband recording is much quieter than an Audacity recording without changing the microphone system. More than one microphone system. I think Garageband may be "...

Re: cannot save or export
Thanks for posting back. Information like yours helps dig other people out of trouble (it's a forum, not a help desk).I think i was in pause mode. I played a bit of the file and the options to save and export returned. Foolish me.

Re: How To Improve Sound Quality?
I will amplify those areas, but then get a hum. I would go to a lot of effort to find the hum. Fixing damage like this in post production is not for the easily frightened. Post about ten seconds of the low voice and don't do anything to it. No noise reduction and no other filters or volume correcti...
