There's a great deal to be said for not using a computer to record. All the computer time sharing, sampling, level and noise problems vanish.
Recordings on that thing sound reasonable and can be made to pass audiobook reading technical standards.

Re: Matching Volumes in New Recordings to Older Recordings
I assume they still use real-time compression/limiting (although it may be done in software Last I checked, nobody was interested in digitizing delays in the broadcast chain, but no, it's not done with separate devices any more. I don't remember the name of the company, but someone came up with a w...

Re: MP3 artifact removal
Thanks for the posting. The video people came up with a similar "desperation method" for rescuing a track that was really too far gone even for jazz. Digital does have its fuzzy edges. 44100 Music CD sampling rate isn't accurate past about 17KHz, but through noise, interpolation, inaccurac...

Re: Tascam 70-D to MacBook connectivity
Anything wrong with recording on the D70 and just transfer the files over? I have a number of sound recorders that appear as hard drives. They record and dump the files onto the "drive." Mount the device later and push the files off.

Re: Can't Sync 25FPS audio w/ 29.970 FPS video
That's as close as we get to the actual job. Flesh that out a bit. Which audio, what video? Where did the video come from that it has bad sound? When I lay the audio onto it it's about 6 seconds out of sync.

Re: Can't Sync 25FPS audio w/ 29.970 FPS video
It's bad practice to export the corrected work in the same file name as the original work I'm waiting for the answer to that one. At least one of those errors can be laid at the feet of not getting the change you thought you had by having the file > export process fail. And then using the "new...

Re: Matching Volumes in New Recordings to Older Recordings
New Music is denser from having been processed and compressed. It sounds louder without triggering radio station broadcast processing which is what simple "making the blue waves taller" would do. even though I do all this and the resulting audio file sounds good at home, when I play it at ...

It's bad practice to export the corrected work in the same file name as the original work—stepping on the old file. That's just begging loudly for trouble.

Re: Can't Sync 25FPS audio w/ 29.970 FPS video
Oh, wait. One more. You can have sample rate errors. Shoot the movie at 48000 and project it at 48001. The podcast people run into this. Everybody shoots their own voice and sends the finished, high quality voice file to a central editing location. There's always somebody whose sound card is running...
