When you finish a reading no matter how ratty is is, Export a WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit file and stash it somewhere safe. You should never need to read something again.

Re: newbie seeks recommendations
That's not deadly. Do you remember what you named it? You can unpack the AUP file and read the original name. Open the AUP file in a text editor (do not save anything). Read the name. Close. Change the filenames back the way they were. This is a graphic from my demo show. The name of the show is pro...

Re: newbie seeks recommendations
We warn strongly against using punctuation marks inside filenames. Upper case, lower case, numbers, _underscore_ and -dash- are the only universally accepted characters. Dates should be written in ISO form. Today is 2018-08-04. Or 18-08-04 or 180804. Be consistent. I see at least one name with a dot...

Re: Very bad quality - need a solution
I can barely hear the one interviewed Audacity is not recommended for recording Skype interviews. Because of the way Skype arranges the sound channels, you recorded the Skype processing errors not the actual voice. If you can't understand the speech, I don't think a transcription service is going t...

Re: Audacity 2.2.2 Thousands of .au files in Google Drive trash??
The little AU files are actual sound files. They are about 6 seconds snippets of a project. Pull them down and play a couple and see if you don't get a clue what they are. This could be a challenge if multiple people are using the drive. I predict (holding fingert to forehead) you are going to find ...

No mention of a shock mount. That's the white spider thing holding on to the sides of the Mic. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MBP_StarbucksStudioShoot-500w.jpg Those white strings are elastic bands. their job is to keep floor, desk and stand vibration from showing up in the microphone and the so...

You can do it the way Ian in Hollywood does it. He comes out every twenty minutes to gasp for air.

Re: Looking for feedback and advice for new voiceover recording
I'll have to stick with separate writing and recording seasons. Don't give up too easy. What's the microphone and how is it mounted? You never said whether you could hear the hum. Can you? Does it, in fact, vanish when you temporarily turn the AC off? Nothing like solving the wrong problem (that's ...

So this is a surveillance job? This never goes well. The sound is almost always too far gone for a regular audio editor or simple tools.
That and as a policy, we don't do, surveillance, law enforcement or conflict resolution.

Re: Urgent Equipment to record one mic on two chanels
Yes, but what i need to buy if i want to make records in stéreo? The UM2 is one of the USB interfaces recommended for audiobook and other mono readings. It's natively mono and makes very nice single tracks that play to both left and right. We should talk about the goal. Are you performing two diffe...
