Re: Audacity does not pick any sound

This is our posting on making a Windows machine record its own playback. Windows machines don't naturally want to do that, so what you have now is "normal."

Re: External mike with Scarlett 2i2 doesn’t record

It's normal for a USB connected device to have no volume controls in Audacity. Does your microphone work if you plug headphones into the 2i2? Also, the 2i2 is natively a stereo device and works best if you have stereo selected in the Audacity toolbar. Do you? What are the settings behind the yellow ...

Re: Newbie question - how to reduce mic input level further?

Windows has a list of things that happen to affect your recording. I know it seems you should be recording to perfect volume, get to the end of a performance, Export the sound files and walk away, but that's actually a bit dangerous. If any one of those upward or downward blue spikes hits 100%, you ...

Re: Monitoring Delay in Guitar Recording

If you can listen to the amp output directly, (not via the computer), there should be no delay.
What he said. But. If you want to overdub, then the Amp has to play the backing track from the computer to you and the live performance. Mix them. That's the zero latency monitoring thing.

Re: Buzz coming from audacity?

There it is. Scroll down to "Mosquito Whine."

Of course if this isn't your problem, the filter won't do a bit of good.

Re: Buzz coming from audacity?

Frying mosquitoes. Whine combined with the microphone hiss

There is a tool for that. Most computers use a standard data service on the USB connection and it whines in predictable pitches. I need to look for the tool.

Re: Monitoring Delay in Guitar Recording

Still. Bluetooth headphones are not a good idea because you get a delay any time you cross the digital/analog barrier. There are two latencies. The one you set in Audacity is the recording latency . That's the one you adjust so when you play to a backing track, your play and the backing track come o...

Re: Dropouts using Scarlett Solo 10.13.4 2.2.2

It will come back. If you don't know what caused it then you don't know when it will come back. Movie shoots have a joke about a "Director Detector Circuit" for electronics. Electronic special effects work perfectly until the director walks onto the set. So this will wait until the next im...

Re: new 2.2.2 version of audacity

download the 2.2.2 version?
You may not want to go back depending on which one. 2.2.1 and maybe 2.2.0 had a serious Project file management problem that could cause show damage.

You can download the installer and keep it parked on the side somewhere. You don't have to download it each time.

Re: Newbie question - how to reduce mic input level further?

there are alternatives if you want to buy some different equipment. Maybe a few more tricks first. Make sure Windows voice processing isn't running. Windows naturally assumes you want to conference to the corporate home office, so a lot of its settings are biased that way. I know you don't have thi...
