Re: Recording equipment for voice
Most of these units (except the iPhone) are stereo. Theory has it if I straight mix down stereo to mono for a voice track, it should decrease the noise. The show is coming from one place, my voice, but the noise is coming from two different microphones. So it should give me ...... square root of the...

Re: Edit individual stereo track
Yes.
There is a drop-down menu to the left of the track. Split Stereo track. Use that one of the two if you intend to jam them back together later.
When you're done, Select the top track > Menu > Make Stereo Track.

Re: Recording equipment for voice
Has anyone used the SM58-CN or for voice overs? I've read several articles online and some people say it works fine for the most part I'm having trouble finding an SM58-CN. Is that the version with the on-off switch? I know what an SM58 is. That's a rock band microphone. So borrow one from a rock b...

Re: Recording equipment for voice
I don't have a soundproof booth and I'm getting a lot of background noise. I can clean it up in post production, but I want to do as little processing as possible. I did change my mind over the centuries. By far the most valuable thing I have is a soundproof third bedroom. Patrick, the kid who live...

Re: Recording problems with bass and sound quality from Laptop
Nobody at YouTube is jumping up and down to allow you to record their shows and no computer advertises the ability to do that. People recording computer playback are all using work-arounds or computer service tricks rather than official offerings. Playback and Record are two independent pathways. Re...

Re: I want to record from usb port, not built-in mic.
Close Audacity. Make sure your USB device is plugged firmly into the machine. Open the Windows control panels, find the USB thing and make sure it's working. The little Windows bouncing sound meter will bounce if everything is OK. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/Win7-SoundControlPanel.jpg Then la...

If Change Pitch didn't work, then it may have been made with one of the modulation techniques which means you need to know how it was made in order to decode it. There's no easy way to guess at it.

Re: Background Noises on record
The Audacity noise reduction and filtering programs depend on you being able to recognize and manage voices ahead of the game. If you can't do that, then we're out. It's one of the reasons we don't do surveillance, conflict resolution or law enforcement.

Re: Beginner Question on Recording Settings and General Advice
Are you doing game commentary? If you have any application with sound support, you may easily run into sharing problems. Audacity doesn't much like sharing sound with other apps, and Audacity is not recommended at all to record Skype or other chat applications.

Re: Beginner Question on Recording Settings and General Advice
Noise Gate reads good on the tin, but isn't all that useful in real life. It can produce words with little tails on them or clipped, bad cellphone sound. If you get Gating to work, it will only last until you change your voice volume. Like when you get tired. Then it starts covering up words. Someti...
