Re: newbie seeks recommendations
That's the cavalry. You can tell by the bugle. There's actually two related problems. Your sound file has very low-pitch rumble tones that could register on Cal Tech earthquake seismometers. And, because of the muffling effects of your mastering, it has the dull quality of AM radio. You can submit w...

Re: newbie seeks recommendations
Can you tell if the clicks were in the original raw reading? Sometimes we tell people to restart their machines and don't let anything else start. This for the people who leave Skype or Instagram running in the background. Skype likes to take over the sound services when it's running—or napping. Can...

Re: newbie seeks recommendations
This is not good news. I hear them clearly, but they have no unique personality by which to recognize them. Pops from a vinyl recording are pretty easy because they're higher than the surrounding blue waves, usually alone and always of very short duration. We can design a program to recognize that. ...

Re: newbie seeks recommendations
Post a longer clip. I need to get a better idea of your rhythm and I need to hear it when you stop talking.

Re: Learning production in Audacity
To avoid the "deep end of the pool" problem, it's recommended that you record your initial voice performances in an actual professional studio and then produce the final show using their sound files at home. There is just nothing like struggling with all parts of the production at the same...

what is the *quickest* way for me to learn how to use Audacity That's stump the band, isn't it? I think the best we can do without marrying you for a couple of weeks is the tutorials in the on-line manual. https://manual.audacityteam.org/ Scroll down. Start with the upper left tutorial: Editing an ...

Re: Internal microphone not available
Which Audacity do you have? When was the last time you restarted the Mac? After it starts—did you get the Chong?—and settles down, launch Audacity. The Chong is important. That's the hardware check. Launch Audacity. Audacity > Preferences > Devices > Recording > Device. You should be able to get to ...

Re: Internal microphone not available
Which Mac have you got? The Mac Mini has no internal microphone. That and how old is it? Line-In hasn't been available on a mac in about three or four years—again, except for the Mini. Apple (upper left) > About this Mac > System Report > Hardware > Audio: Built In Microphone If you have a microphon...

Re: classroom podcast help--file conversion
You should be able to open an M4A file if you install FFMpeg. Pick your Audacity version and then scroll down to the add-ons. https://www.audacityteam.org/ (we need to be mobile so we can interview kids wherever they are in the school) I think I'm missing the interview technique. You're walking up t...

Re: Audacity won't open file,
How long is the show? How many tracks? Your description feels like you're running out of environment or possibly straight drive space. You should File > Export the work as a perfect quality WAV file, but you will not be able to do that if you have a long or complex show.
