Re: Looking for laptop with built-in Direct firing speakers? With great sound quality.
I will look into the little MacBook Air, although I have never use any apple products. I don't think they would be a good match if you're accustomed to Windows. I'm only using that as an illustration. I was surprised the direct-fire speakers in the heavy, more comprehensive laptop didn't work nearl...

Re: Learning production in Audacity
Maybe I can start another thread and discuss my gear there. You could. But sometimes it's valuable to have the whole story in one thread. Because of time constraints, I view each posting divorced from the others. If you ask something related to your other posts and I don't catch it, we could go dow...

Re: Learning production in Audacity
If I screw things up, just start over with the raw file. Of course that is a simpleton workflow I suppose. Also the recommended one. Retakes may be possible with a home producer, but the grownups frown on it—sometimes to the point of never calling you back. Anyone who is making 6-hour podcasts shou...

Re: Learning production in Audacity
I feel like I need another 5-10 years just to finish building all of this?!) That's why I think you should Do Something even if it's a recording on your laptop built-in microphones. I did one. I have a test clip for that here somewhere..... It's the difference between the college level course in au...

Re: Looking for laptop with built-in Direct firing speakers? With great sound quality.
I do have a note. The little MacBook Air has far better built-in sound than you think it should and it mops the floor with the direct-firing sound from the larger MacBook Pros. It has compression drivers behind the hinge and doesn't even try to simulate larger living room speakers. I don't have any ...

Re: record voice with a music background like a podcast in Audacity
There's a tutorial in the manual about how to do this That's how to do it over a long time totally in post production. I did it in real life like the radio people do it and probably how you were imagining it. But it wasn't simple or cheap. Denise is on the East Coat and I'm on the West Coast. We co...

Re: Learning production in Audacity
you and Koz make it sound like allowing people to comment on podcasts/audio content is key? I have no provision to write back or add comments. My goal is not entertainment production. You, on the other hand, are stuck. Your goal is consumable content. We do have standards and tools for producing au...

Re: Learning production in Audacity
Do you lose anything saving to .wav versus keeping the raw Audacity files? Not quite the point. Audacity doesn't save sound files. It creates and saves Projects. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MyMusicAUP-MyMusic_DATA.jpg Projects are collections of files and folders (that's one Project) suitabl...

Re: Learning production in Audacity
That is good advice! That's why he's a senior elf. I don't get the robe and fuzzy slippers. the first 10 podcasts by anyone are usually rubbish The audiobook version of that is the realization you should read your first chapter over again because it sounds nothing like your last chapter. I was plan...
