Re: Eliminating Frying Mosquitos - hardware suggestion

And it would get even better with Effect > Equalizer in front of the whole thing. It's a tool collection. Shouldn't leave any out.

Equalization
RMS Normalize
Limiter

Then add Noise Reduction.

Re: question

Audacity is free. If you got a version with offers to sell you things, you may have got a bogus version.

You can totally apply store-bought software to Audacity. One of the vinyl noise reducers works that way.

Re: Eliminating Frying Mosquitos - hardware suggestion

When you apply RMS Normalize, you may get red marks on your show. This is normal and RMS Normalize sometimes does that. But time line sound doesn't overload like outside files do. When you apply Limiter everything will come back to normal. The three tools are intended to be a suite, a harmonious gro...

Re: Eliminating Frying Mosquitos - hardware suggestion

If I didn't say so, all you need to do is get rid of the "talking in a kitchen" sound and that's good to go for publishing. ACX can't detect 6, 6, 6 gentle noise reduction and everything else makes it under the wire—just. One warning, ACX wants your publication chapters to match. So once y...

Re: Eliminating Frying Mosquitos - hardware suggestion

Ran out of time and did a quick sound test again to not have peaks. Correct. It doesn't have peaks. The clip has perfect sound levels. However, you did the 2-second room tone wrong. The instructions are "freeze and hold your breath." http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Cl...

Noise Reduction Profile

Why doesn't Noise Reduction save its last used profile like Equalization does?

Re: taking audio samples to reduce noise

Some you can do that. Some are "standard" noises like microphone "hisss". There might be tiny personality differences, but I expect that to work better than you think. But no. Audacity will try to remove whatever you stick in the Profile. One of the things that kills our surveill...

I did notice the odd behavior if you select out of order. It's been that way forever?

Re: Select Track button - proposal

The track sticks selected, but the button has no personality. I select multiple tracks by Shift-Clicking. De-select one track with Command Click (Mac) or Control Click (whatever is Windows normal). De-select everything but the hero track by just clicking. We're making formal the "click in a dea...

That can be made to pass ACX technical.
