It's odder than that. Audacity doesn't need extra software to open an MP3. So what you have is probably not MP3s. The idea is to leave your normal "S" tones alone and just get rid of the "ice pick in the ear" sound.

These adjustments get harder as your ears fall apart.

I don't think DeEsser comes with stock Audacity. I need to find it.
