Re: Help needed with SSSibilance

We're splitting fine hair. Try one with the first DeEsser value Threshold set to -30dB rather than -25dB. That should make the corrections a little quieter and hopefully less obvious. That's what it did last time I tried it. Remember start with a fresh, raw read file each time. This is a good time t...

Re: Help needed with SSSibilance

I heard an improvement to the final 9 seconds you edited but the strongest sibilance is in the first 7 seconds on the words "swarming" and "sailing" I got lost. My sample post was raw, uncorrected for the first 9 seconds and then "DistantSeas" filtered for the rest. Yo...

Re: Need help with low noise

There is some on the left, but it's super low volume. There's another oddity. I expect the hum level to go nuts when you disconnected the ground strap and it didn't. We don't know anything about the turntable, either. Is that USB connected by any chance? What's the chances you outstripped the USB's ...

Re: Help! Sound won't record from mixer board

Open up the Windows sound control panels by right-clicking the speaker icon and drill down to recording devices. Is your mixer posted there? Does the sound meter bounce when you play something? Restart Audacity. Audacity checks for devices when it starts. You can also Transport > Rescan. Audacity wi...

Re: Advice on Chris's Dynamic Compression: use INSTEAD of RMS Normalize? When to do the De-Noise?

IMO Noise-reduction before compressing. After compression the noise level will no longer be constant. And I believe that's backed up by at least two different process publications. They all put Noise Reduction at the beginning. But that's using a compressor. Mastering 4 doesn't use a compressor and...

Re: Clipping after RMS Normalization

The only two shortcomings I can think of is where to put the script and how to mount the microphone. They address the mount problem in the photos in the promo. Be sure you can do that with yours. I like the hanging microphone idea. A lot of people read from a tablet. Is that what your'e going to do?...

Re: Advice on Chris's Dynamic Compression: use INSTEAD of RMS Normalize? When to do the De-Noise?

@christianw I use Chris's compressor. Without cranking through the video, do you use it at the default settings? I never said it doesn't work, you just have to be aware of its shortcomings—the most serous being that end-of-file thing. Does it hit RMS and Peak routinely? For just you or for multiple ...

Re: Clipping after RMS Normalization

The cord is fairly long, probably 4-5 feet That may be where your whine sound is coming from. Do you have a shorter cable available for testing? Cable problems become worse as you increase the length. But before you mess with that, lets get everything else resolved. makes things simpler or more com...
