There is another way to mess this up. Go > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup. Problems with that are pretty rare and I keep forgetting it's back there. With some digital interfaces, it basically goes on vacation and all the settings freeze.

The only thing I can think of that's odd is the driver. I didn't think the simpler Behringer adapters needed one. They're all class compliant—unpack it, plug it in and go.

One other note. Audacity does not apply filters, effects or corrections during recording. Whatever Windows gives to Audacity, that's what Audacity records.
