Re: how to tell record and automatically remove silences
A caution here. Audacity doesn't "know" what silence is. All it knows is sound higher or lower than a set value. Your recordings don't have "silence," either. They have your show, stuff and background noise. It's up to you to adjust settings so Truncate removes the right thing. W...

Re: neeeed help... New to this and cannot figure out for life of me
The voices were in real life, right? Not on the TV? No, that's the end. New Audiobook Readers are stunned how quiet room has to be to read for a simple audiobook, and if your room noise is loud enough, it overpowers the voice and you can't make out anything. Audacity can't split a mixed performance ...

Re: Screen Recording & Mobile Phone Recording
but there was a tech problem. Do you know what the tech problem was? Never waste an accident. via Quicktime using a screen recording and the sound is really tinny. What does that mean? You just pressed record on the MacBook Pro's mics? I've done that. That's not dreadful if you're using Audacity. I...

Re: Can Audacity do this?
How else would Shazam match a sound clip you're cording with your phone's microphone to a song in their database? Proprietary software that Audacity doesn't have? And no, it's not remotely that easy. Digging through bad microphones and compression distortion is not for the easily frightened. Audaci...

Re: Can Audacity do this?
I'm going with no, but someone could argue with me. Word is looking for a specific digital signature for the ascii values of the characters. Find Ascii 65 followed by ascii 68 (letter A and letter D). Good. Now screen capture that word document and open the capture picture in Photoshop. Now find tho...

Re: pop at the beginning of recording any new track
Is your silence at zero on the timeline? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/DCOffset.jpg The wave on the right is normal. If you stop talking do your waves settle to zero? They can be off either up or down. Or before you remove the pop, does the blue line not start at zero? Converting from analog to...

Re: How to Lower peak volume?
Soft Limit is the one that contributes the least sound damage and is the one recommended for Audiobook readings. As you go up the scale through Hard Limit and then the dreaded Clipping, the more brutal the effect is and the more likely to damage the sound.

Re: Project & Track Notes/History
Need a history to work from as don't recall the subsequent edits that were made. Audacity doesn't save a process. Every time you make a change in the show, Audacity makes a copy of the whole show as UNDO. There is no going back out of order. Audacity has no real idea what it did in the middle. It j...

Re: HELP! Same set up over two days, but different audio quality!
How would you suggest I proceed with my microphone volume naturally so loud? Darn good question. Make Audacity display the overload points by setting View > Show Clipping. And then just don't announce very loud. Yelling Figure out how to stress your voice without actually making it louder (this is ...

I'd just as soon not agree to anybody's analysis cookies. Screen Shot 2018-10-12 at 15.59.38.png Have you ever gotten this to work before? I'm not exactly sure where to go with this. What do you expect the difference to be? the errors between the two performances? What's the goal again? to isolate t...
