Re: Add "excitement" to audio
David Attenborough David Attenborough doesn't sound like he's talking to a kid (having an orchestra back there helps). I didn't write that in the opinion, but that's part of the "every word a gem" thing. I wish there was an easy way to shorten those dragged out emphasis words. Hank Green....

Re: Audiobook distribution
ACX doesn't quite match up for music. ACX doesn't do music. That's radio theater and the most exciting thing I ever heard them do was brief interstitials or into and outro music and the rest of the performance is pure spoken word. You shouldn't bulk process a mixed performance. In particular, the f...

Re: Problems editing audio book to pass acx
We can't always tell what happened after you apply corrections. Do you still have that sound clip before you did anything to it? You have some odd noises in this posted clip I can't account for. Everything that's not you speaking shows up as noise in the ACX measurement, so it can be rough to nail d...

Re: Add "excitement" to audio
My opinion is a bit more basic. You sound like you're talking into a wine glass. Did you do extensive noise reduction? Conference Call/Cellphone Voice. The next thing I did was speed it up 8% and took some of the air out of the speech pattern. audio-excerpt1Plus8Percent.wav And maybe that's not even...

Re: Audiobook distribution
You can pass ACX by heavily treating your bad voice recording with filters, effects and corrections and it may pass the ACX first test, the one performed by their "robot." But it will drop dead at the second test, Human Quality Control. Once a human listens to the performance, it's usually...

Re: Advice on how to produce clearest voice for audiobook
So that's the technical standards. When you get finished mastering, Export a WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit of the work. That's your Mastering Archive. If you have to make any changes, do it to the WAV, not the submitted MP3. You can't edit an MP3 without increasing sound distortion. ACX still requires you ...

UntitledMastered.wav Screen Shot 2018-10-19 at 2.25.36.png All I did was apply the three tools in Mastering 4 just as it's listed in the post. https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=96103 Effect > Equalization > Low Rolloff for Speech, Length about 5000 > OK Effect > RMS Normalize ...

Re: Advice on how to produce clearest voice for audiobook
I forced the tools to work with the wrong Room Tone and got the clip to pass with a little Noise Reduction. First three readings and sentence 2/3 down. Screen Shot 2018-10-18 at 20.22.33.png So we may be done. Post the corrected test clip and I'll publish how I did it. The background noise sounds li...

Re: Advice on how to produce clearest voice for audiobook
Do you see in the instructions where it says hold your breath and don't move for two seconds before you speak?

We really need that quiet Room Tone at the beginning for the tools to work.

Re: Advice on how to produce clearest voice for audiobook
I'll get to this in a minute.
I don't care how you recorded the work and whether or not you're in English. You're mastering in Audacity and we can help with that.
I need to go play Real Life for a while.
